Adam recently asked me to describe myself for our new business website – www.businesskickstart.com.au – and I was dumbstruck. After a few seconds I pumped this out:
Having recently learnt the vulcan hand gesture, become a marriage celebrant and learnt how to cook an omelette, Joshua has skills. He’s spent the last 27 years learning how to communicate effectively and specialises in new and emerging technology although Joshua, like most Queenslanders still struggles with the english language. Joshua earnt his stripes in the small business services business from an early age, supplying and servicing cash registers, stock control and EFTPOS equipment and has more recently found new challenges in broadcast radio, advertising and graphic design. He loves long walks on the beach, fizzy drinks and coastal communities without mobile reception.
Too pretentious?

Frankly I thought it was more confusing than pretentious… who are you again?!

My previous comment (above) probably wasn’t very helpful… but I really want to read something that gets to the heart of who you are, what you’re about and what is important to you. There’s all this stuff about stock control and EFTPOS equipment and other minutia. I think you should think about the things that you do, that you are passionate about, and try to discern some aspect of them that connects them to each other. Find out what the string is that runs through all the things you do and put that into words. And I think when it comes to About biographies sometimes your future aspirations are more important than the past (certainly more important the odd jobs you did to make money as a kid).
